The Correct Order In Which To Watch The Clone Wars, According To Lucasfilm
"Star Wars: The Clone Wars" is a series from the "galaxy far, far away" that is beloved by most fans because of its ability to give more story on not only the clones but everything that occurred in the roughly three-year timeframe between the live-action movies, "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" and "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." It first began as an animated feature film back in the summer of 2008, but quickly was released as an ongoing series through Cartoon Network that fall. For a while, the series had ended after Season 6 in 2013 after an abrupt announcement from Disney (via Wired) until it ultimately returned on the Disney+ streaming service in 2020 for a 7th and final season.
"The Clone Wars" gave Star Wars fans some unbelievable stories about a group of clones that included the likes of Captain Rex, Fives, Echo, and others along with a heavy focus on the Jedi Order and their generals, Obi-Wan Kenobi (James Arnold Taylor), Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter), and of course, Anakin's apprentice Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein). As "Star Wars" fans know well, Ahsoka had never existed prior to the show, effectively making her a canon character in the live-action Star Wars saga as well. Ahsoka recently appeared in live-action for the first time during Season 2 of "The Mandalorian."
Some of the stories during "The Clone Wars" also interestingly jumped around in time, with some episodes later in the series taking place before earlier episodes. To help with this, Lucasfilm recently released the chronological order in which to watch these stories. Here's what we know.
The chronological order jumps around with focuses on certain seasons
According to a post from Lucasfilm on the "Star Wars" website, fans are now finally able to have easy access to the chronological order of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Instead of the first episode being "Ambush," the first episode of Season 1, the actual very first episode to watch in the story is Season 2, Episode 16, titled "Cat and Mouse." The second episode in the timeline would then be Season 1, Episode 16 titled "Hidden Enemy." Viewers would next watch the theatrical release of "The Clone Wars" as the makeshift second-and-a-half episode. This makes sense, as these two episodes and the movie revolve around the liberation of the planet Christophsis.
Season 3, Episode 1 comes third, then Season 3, Episode 3 for the fourth, to finally make it to "Ambush" as what would be the fifth episode in the chronological order. From that point on, it's all mixed around with focuses on certain seasons for a while, only for an episode from a later season to be placed in at a certain point. As far as why this is the case, "The Clone Wars" was originally designed to be an anthology series that sort of moved around a little bit within those three years between "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones" and "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." Our recommendation is to save this list for the next time you rewatch "The Clone Wars" in order to make sure you're viewing the right episode at the right time.
All of the episodes of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and the feature film are available to stream on Disney+.
