The Surprising Reason Moses Ingram Loves Being A Star Wars Villain

Set 10 years after the events of "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith," the Disney+ limited series "Obi-Wan Kenobi" brings Ewan McGregor's take on the famed Jedi Master back into the spotlight. Hiding out on Tatooine as the Galactic Empire increases in power, he must not only stay alive in an anti-Jedi galaxy and confront his past failures, but keep a watchful eye over a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) as he grows up at the Lars homestead. Along the way, he faces challenges big and small, though few are as ruthless and dangerous as the feared Imperial Inquisitors.

Originally created for the "Star Wars Rebels" animated series, the Inquisitors seek one singular goal: the eradication of all remaining Jedi for the sake of the Empire. "Obi-Wan Kenobi" hosts their live-action debut, in which three factor into the story. The Grand Inquisitor — famously voiced by Jason Isaacs on "Rebels," though now portrayed by Rupert Friend — leads the charge, with fellow animation alum the Fifth Brother (Sung Kang, taking the baton from Philip Anthony-Rodriguez) in tow. Alongside them is a brand new Inquisitor named Reva, better known as the Third Sister.

Moses Ingram portrays the Third Sister on "Obi-Wan Kenobi," and despite the villainous nature of her character, she couldn't love playing Reva more. Here's why.

Reva's red lightsaber made playing a villain fun for Ingram

On May 23, 2022, Moses Ingram sat down with Popsugar to discuss her time playing Reva on "Obi-Wan Kenobi," divulging a little information about the Third Sister's personality. "I can tell you that she plays the offensive, and she's really passionate about what she does, and I think that's the thing that comes through most about her," Ingram said, adding that portraying a bad guy comes with its benefits. More specifically, she expressed her love for Reva's red lightsaber, explaining, "You swing it past your face, and it just has a glow coming behind it...it's just really cool."

As it turns out, Moses Ingram isn't the only member of the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" cast who has found themself in awe of the iconic "Star Wars" weapon. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Darth Vader actor Hayden Christiansen recalled his experience wielding a lightsaber as Anakin Skywalker in the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy. "I always had a tough time not making the lightsaber sound effects when I was doing my lightsaber scenes...it's like muscle memory from being a kid," Christiansen said — a hilarious habit that Ewan McGregor himself hasn't broken to this day.

Considering how much they love using them, hopefully, Moses Ingram, Ewan McGregor, and Hayden Christiansen get plenty of time to twirl their lightsabers on "Obi-Wan Kenobi." We'll just have to wait and see when the six-episode miniseries kicks off on May 27.
